Today we travel north to the market town of Chesterfield which was given the charter in 1204 by King John but the town formed its roots as a Roman fort close to the edge of the empire as it was placed in excellent position for its transportation links, even though the M1 might not have existed!, while your here hopefully you’ll be able to grab a bargain from the towns market or the many high street shops including Vicar Lane Shopping Centre, however there is the remarkable church of St Mary which dates back to the 14th century and is a grade 1 building and is famed for its twisted leaning wooden spire.
